Content

The objectives of the Master of Public Health course are:
1. To provide a broad understanding of the core areas of public health and related disciplines
2. To develop through a field-intense practical training programme the individual ability to identify a health problem and conceptualize the related research questions, design a community-based study to investigate the problem, collect relevant data from the field, analyze the data and present the findings in a policy or scientific context
3. To help acquire knowledge and skills to analyze health situations and help devise appropriate policies and programmes in a cost-effective manner.

Requirements

Minimum Educational Qualifications for Admission
Medical graduates (after MBBS), dental graduates, graduates in veterinary sciences, nursing sciences or students with a postgraduate degree in social sciences, nutrition or allied specialities.

Course fee There is no course fee for the candidates sponsored by the state/central government/Armed forces. For non-sponsored/non-governmental candidates, the course fee is Rs.1,00,000/- for two years. ICMR may offer some fellowships for the non-sponsored candidates qualifying an
examination on all India -basis.

The primary goal of the programme, which has been ongoing since January 2001, is to generate a cadre of public health professionals who will be practitioners of epidemiology at
the field level and competent in addressing public health needs and priorities efficiently and effectively. The course aims at developing and strengthening a wide range of actionoriented
competencies in the core areas of disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, epidemiological studies, public health communication, public health advocacy, health systems research, and programme evaluation.
