Despite dramatic health gains in the last 25 years, the world’s poorest people continue to experience disproportionately high levels of morbidity and mortality. While improvements in health services play an important role in promoting and protecting health, health outcomes are also shaped by broader social and economic contextual factors. This short course demonstrates how better health for poor people can be reached if the social and economic circumstances that affect people’s health are incorporated into national policies and strategies.
