Content

This course prepares you for a diverse range of roles in Public Health with a focus on partnership working and improving health in teams, through a variety of mechanisms such as health education, political influencing and behaviour change. It draws on the theories of the management of change, understanding disease patterns/epidemiology, research and practice-based education. This equips you to take your knowledge and apply it to a public health setting in order to implement courses or projects to improve healthy living and outcomes, and to evaluate the impact on the community.

The learning environment is international and multi-professional with a mixture of lectures, student led seminars and self-directed study. Study support is provided in the form of lecturer and student led classes, online support and individual tutorial support. Our Public Health Masters course is internationally focused and we have had students from many countries. Our course leader Dr Ann Hemingway and other course staff are involved in international research activity and Dr Hemingway is a visiting lecturer at Uppsala University in Sweden.

A relevant first degree or evidence of development at degree level. Experience of public health working or similar work in a closely related field is normally required.
Requirements A good Bachelors Honours degree or equivalent.

This exciting new course at Bournemouth University has been specially developed to meet the needs of nurses both from the UK and also internationally. If you have a background in hospital or community-based clinical practice, education, research or management you will find an interesting range of core and optional units that will prepare you for a range of diverse roles in advanced clinical practice and senior management positions. The course responds to contemporary local, national and international agendas that require the development of a skilled and highly-educated nursing workforce.

A particular strength of the course is that as a student, you will be supervised by research and clinically active academics in contemporary areas. The learning environment is stimulating, international and multi-professional with a mixture of lectures, student led seminars and self-directed study. The course is closely associated with the internationally renowned Centre for Qualitative Research at Bournemouth University, and students will have the opportunity to study with a range of leading figures in qualitative research from the international community. Study support is provided in the form of teacher and student led classes and individual tutorial support.

Our MSc in Nursing course is internationally focused and we will recruit students from many countries. The course leader, Dr Francis C Biley, is Associate Professor at Bournemouth University and Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University, New Jersey, USA. He has almost 20 years of experience with establishing, leading and teaching such courses in countries as diverse as the US, Wales, Germany, Greece, Sweden and the Netherlands Antilles.

Profile
In order to be admitted to this programme, students from the UK will need to be registered with the United Kingdom’s Nursing and Midwifery Council. If from overseas, students must be able to demonstrate qualification in nursing, health visiting or equivalent and/or registration with an equivalent body where it exists.
Requirements Normally a relevant first degree (Nursing)
Structure All units are accredited, allowing candidates to either complete the Masters course (six units, plus dissertation), or receive an interim award of Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) or Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) based on the successful completion of three or six taught units respectively
