The training course will focus on the role of the DTC and the practical approaches available in promoting
rational use of medicines. Key features will include—
• Formulary management
• Standard treatment guidelines
• Essential medicines list
• Indicators of medicine use
• Interventions to change inappropriate medicine use
• Practical aspects of running a DTC
The last two days of the course will focus on training of trainers (TOT) aspect and is designed to help the
participants to better prepare themselves to provide DTC-related training to others in their respective
countries and regions. Key features of the TOT component will include—
• Adult learning
• Role of the teacher
• Communication skills
• Teaching and learning methods
• DTC-related presentation and facilitation skills |

The course is designed for physicians; pharmacists; and health officials in hospitals, ministries of health,
universities, or private organizations. Those interested in improving formulary management and
promoting rational use of medicines through Drug and Therapeutics Committees (DTCs) and who are in a
position to provide training and technical assistance to other DTCs are invited to apply. Candidates with
some experience with DTCs and who wish to expand their knowledge of pharmaceutical management and
train others in their country/region are preferred. |
