The course will be a mix of
lectures by expert scientists in the field and interactive
group discussions. It provides updated information on various
aspects of cystic echinococcosis. Main Topics
• Epidemiology and burden of disease of CE at global
and European level • Prevention of CE – integrated
veterinarian and medical approach (“One Medicine”)
• Under-reporting of CE in some EU countries •
The role of ultrasound population surveys in evaluating
CE prevalence • Imaging in the diagnosis and follow-up
of CE • Serology in the diagnosis and follow-up of
CE • Interdisciplinary management of CE •
Surgery • Percutaneous treatments • Medical
treatment • “Watch and Wait” for inactive,
uncomplicated liver cysts • Management of extra-hepatic
and extrapulmonary locations. |

Objectives/

The course consists of lectures,
demonstrations, and clinical rounds for live ultrasound
scanning at Cayetano Heredia Hospital. Lectures and demonstrations
will involve the entire group. Clinical rounds for scanning
will be in small groups with faculty. |
