Ce cours, délivré dans le cadre de l'Ecole Pasteurienne d'Infectiologie (EPI), s'adresse à des médecins, vétérinaires, scientifiques et ingénieurs, français ou étrangers, souhaitant acquérir des connaissances sur la pratique des essais cliniques dans le domaine des maladies infectieuses et tropicales. Le cours sera orienté sur la réalisation d'essais cliniques en pays en développement.
Requirements Les étudiants devront avoir une formation bio-médicale de niveau Baccalauréat + 3. Pour les étudiants qui n'auront pas de formation préalable en bio-statistiques (niveau minimum 1er module du Centre d'Enseignement de la Statistique Appliquée à la Médecine et à la Biologie Médicale), un cours de bio-statistiques d'une semaine sera proposé avant le début du module. Une compréhension parfaite de la langue française sera exigée.

This course is delivered by the Institut Pasteur School of Infectiology and is intended for doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, research scientists and engineers wishing to acquire a practical knowledge of biomedical data analysis.
The course includes five training sessions, which can be taken separately.

Session 1 (prerequisite: baccalauréat +2, High School Diploma +2 ): Database management with Access and Epidata.
Session 2 (prerequisite: biomedical background, minimum level baccalauréat +3, High School Diploma +3): Introduction to Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Sessions 3 to 5 teach how to use the statistical software Stata, Statistical Software for Professionals:
Session 3 (prerequisite: CESAM or equivalent): Introduction to data analysis with Stata.
Session 4 (prerequisite: CESAM or equivalent, knowledge of Stata): Logistic regression with Stata.
Session 5 (prerequisite: CESAM or equivalent, knowledge of Stata): Survival analysis and Cox model with Stata.
The course will cover both theoretical (30%) and practical (70%) aspects. The classroom is equipped with 30 PCs and each student will have its own computer for practicals.

The objective is to offer an integrated vision of vaccinology, from scientific, medical and public health data, which justify the development of a vaccine, to its delivery to the populations in the context of rich and poor countries.

The course is organized in two parts:

  • Introduction on the different aspects of this integrative discipline, the immunological aspects of vaccination, the definition of protective antigens in the post-genomic era.
  • the principles of preclinical and clinical development, the main infectious diseases and the successes or failures in the development of vaccines to prevent them, the development of vaccines against emergent and neglected diseases, the impact of vaccination on the control of infectious diseases, the socio-economic aspects of vaccination.

This is an intensive laboratory and lecture course devoted to new experimental techniques and current concepts in the study of cellular function. Topics include: functional organization of the cell, polarity and intracellular traffic; communication and cellular signaling; cell-pathogen interactions; nucleocytoplasmic shuttling; cell cycle.
The practical course provides training in cell culture of transfected and infected cells, in-vitro reconstitution of cellular functions and introduces students to cutting edge techniques for the dynamic visualization of subcellular components.

Candidates should have a good knowledge of mycobacteriology, molecular biology, and basic epidemiology. The course is composed of lectures given by international scientits and of practical courses focused on the use of molecular tools for genotyping of tuberculosis mycobacteria. Topics include: genomics, evolution, diversity and population genetics of tuberculosis mycobacteria, and application to research, clinical laboratory and epidemiology investigations of individual and communitarian concerns. The practical work focuses on the use basic laboratory equipment, followed by a computer-assisted data analysis.
