At the end of the MOH program, the students should be able to attain the following objectives:

• an understanding of the various factors influencing the health and safety of workers in relation to the work and work environment;
• an understanding of the effects of work and work environment on the health, safety and productivity of workers and points of intervention;
• an appreciation of the dynamics of labor and management relationship and the roles of occupational health and safety professionals in attaining the goals of occupational health;
• the ability to recognize/identify and evaluate environmental factors/stresses affecting the health and safety of workers;
• the ability to determine appropriate preventive and control measures to ensure safe and healthful work environment.
• the ability to utilize statistical and epidemiological concepts and principles in the study of occupational health and safety problems;
• the ability to plan, implement and evaluate occupational health and safety programs; and
• the ability to coordinate and collaborate with other professionals in the community on matters pertaining to occupational health and safety. The Curriculum

- Must fulfill the general admission requirements of the National Graduate Office of University of the Philippines Manila.
- Good scholastic record from any recognized institution of higher learning.
- Must be graduates of approved schools of medicine and/or allied professions or have at least a baccalaureate degree in the biological sciences.
- Approval of the applicant's qualification for graduate work in Occupational Health by the faculty of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health.

The Country is presently experiencing a rapid transition to industrialization and urbanization which brings about several environmental resource and health problems. Among these are deaths attributed to inadequate water supply and poor sanitation and hygiene practices; chronic diseases brought about by the contamination of air, water and food; and, general degradation of the environment by indiscriminate disposal of wastes, erosion of soil, deforestation, siltation of bodies of water and formation of urban slums. Poor appreciation of the interaction among development, environment and health must be addressed by training environmental professionals who will be able to influence environmental health policies of the country through education, research, community service, and advocacy.

The MSPH (Environmental Health) program is designed to provide this area of specialization in Public Health. Graduates of the program are expected to make substantive contribution to new knowledge that is relevant to the environmental needs of developing countries. Specifically, at the end of the program, the MSPH (EH) graduates should be able to:

• recognize the different environmental hazards, their environmental and health effects;
• apply principles and methods of controlling environmental hazards and health effects;
• plan and conduct environmental epidemiologic research;
• evaluate the environmental and health impact of development projects; and
• formulate an environmental health programme.

The program will develop student competencies in the health policy process which involves policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation as well as advocacy. At the end of the course, the student shall:

1. understand the nature and dynamics of health development
2. be able to discuss the interplay of the various factors (economic, political, social, legal and administrative) that affect the health situation
3. demonstrate an interdisciplinary orientation in approaching and resolving health issues
4. demonstrate an understanding of health policy development process that integrates the roles of health and social sciences
5. demonstrate proactive orientation in identifying and analyzing priority public policy issues
6. formulate socially responsible and relevant health policy recommendations as a result of professional policy analysis research
7. demonstrate a capacity to engage in policy advocacy and consensus building in developing policy.

1. A bachelor’s degree,
2. One year relevant experience except in meritorious cases,
3. Scholastic ability and potential for postgraduate studies,
4. Capability for self directed learning.

Additional requirements for foreign applicants:
1. Affidavit of support or certificate of financial capability,
2. TOEFL score of at least 500 if English is not the medium of instruction in the country,
3. Photocopy of passport (original to be presented for verification),
4. Student visa issued by the Philippine government.
