Content

The goal of the Conference is to analyse and discuss how health systems, services and health professions education adapt and readapt to the local needs of populations according to the historical, political and cultural influences they receive over time. Participants will approach the Conference topic from their own experiences and practices. Community site visits to different initiatives, taking place in the city-region of Bogotá-Cundinamarca, will show how health services, health education institutions and communities are adapting to rapidly changing social conditions of the existing diverse population groups.

Major questions to be answered during the Conference would be:
* What ways can be identified to introduce change in accord with perceived health needs of population groups?
* How to adapt the health workforce to new requirements in health education and health services?
* How are individuals and communities involved in decision-making processes?
* What is the role of cultural competence in health professions education and health services?
* How can changes in the health professions education and health services be evaluated to monitor their response to local needs?

Faculty, administrators and students of educational institutions for health and social care professions (for example, medicine, nursing, dentistry, odontology, pharmacy, nutrition, public health, environmental health, physiotherapy, medical radiation science, speech and occupational therapy, health and patient education, social work, health policy, health administration, library and information sciences), and health care providers constitute one set of participants in this Conference. The other target population encompasses representatives of communities, local health organisations, societies of health professionals and authorities who are (or would like to become) involved in increasing the accountability of academic health institutions towards community health by guiding health professions and institutional agendas.
Cooperation The Network: Towards Unity for Health (The Network: TUFH) is an international collaborative effort of some 185 institutions and organizations for health and health professions education and over 200 individuals. Member institutions and organizations are dedicated to optimally adjust their missions in education, service and research to the health needs of their client populations.
