Content

The elderly require a different – more holistic – treatment strategy. Current academic and clinical practice is insufficiently equipped to translate this essential paradigm shift into action. In order to address this need, the Leyden Academy developed the ‘Vitality and Ageing’ medical master’s degree for medical doctors.

Objectives: Social and biological gerontology and geriatrics, structure of health care, academic skills
Content: The medical master programme contains (amongst others):
* the biology and sociology of ageing
* the epidemiological and demographical transition
* the scientific basis of geriatrics
* the economy of health care
* the structure and financing of the care for elderly people
* capita selecta from the quality programmes ‘care for the elderly’
* personal and societal perception of the elderly issue
* working on a project basis
* effective (electronic) communication
* thesis

medical doctors or clinical healthcare professionals with MA/MD, excellent Bachelor graduates
Requirements Master degree or equivalent, Bachelor degree with exceptional performance

Cooperation The Master organised in cooperation with the Leiden University and the university medical centre (LUMC). The Master programme is accredited by NVAO.
Course fee There are three costs associated with the medical master’s degree:
* the tuition fee for the master programme is € 18,100.--. Books, teaching materials and literature are included in this fee
* living expenses during your stay in the Netherlands
* travelling expenses from and to your home country/city
