The course prepares participants to:
- describe and analyse health and social problems at a local level;
- develop an insight in the consequences of ill-health in a community and in the process of health development;
- develop solutions for health (care) problems in co-operation with local health workers, taking into account the cultural and religious values and working within the context of primary health care.
The student has to develop specific knowledge and skills to meet the demands of his profession in the context of development assistance. He has to be able to collect information about the health situation of a community, to determine its health problems and find appropriate solutions in co-operation with the community.

By the end of the course, the student will be able to facilitate the development of (aspects) of health care projects such as the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects, the development of information systems, setting up health promotion and prevention campaigns, and (further) training of local workers.
