This modular course recruits internationally and
is designed to provide the theoretical basis for a specialist
rule in health education and health promotion. Students
from the course may work in industrialised or developing
countries.

Fulltime: PG Cert 1 semester (approx 3 months); PG Dip 2 semesters (1 year) . compulsory placement - 1 week in semester 2; MSc 2 semesters (1 year) plus dissertation · compulsory placement - 1 week in semester 2: UK; Part time: PG Cert 2 semesters (1 year); PG Dip: 3 semesters (1 1/2 years); MSc: 1 additional semester plus dissertation · day
Part-time students complete the six taught modules of the postgraduate diploma over three semesters instead of two. The MSc entails one further taught module in research methodology plus research leading to the submission of a 15,000-20,000 word dissertation.

Objectives/
Content |

As a discipline, dietetics interprests
and communicates the science of nutrition to enhance the
health and quality of life of both individuals and groups
of people, through food and nutrition education.
Dietetics requires the integration of a broad range of natural
and social sciences so that practitioners can educate and
empower individuals and groups to improve food intake to
benefit health.
Subjects studied include nutition and science and clinical
subjects. Diet therapy is underpinned by life sciences i.e.
biochemistry, physiology, immunology. Microbiology, genetics,
pharmacology and food science.
Interpersonal communication skills, reflective learning,
personal development profiles, practice competencies, student
centred study skills and research skills form an important
part of the curriculum. |

| Requirements |
|
Applicants will need a PGDip
in Dietetics and possess relevant current research understanding
such as a research module at Masters level. Since graduation
you must have evidence of involvement research and audit
activities which demonstrate current currency (up to date).
Students will normally be employed as dietitians within
the NHS |
| Structure |
|
To qualify for the award of
the MSc you must complete a three year module research dissertation.
This can take the form of empirical study, a systematic
review or work-based study. This research is normally carried
out in the workplace after obtaining registration and can
be done on a part-time basis in the UK or overseas. |

substantial work experience. Mature learners may be able
to claim credit for prior learning and experience through
the MYEC programme. |

These courses are Individualised
Programmes of Study (IPoS), where you can negotiate your
own programmes, combining modules, independent study, credit
for previous study and work experience in a flexible way
not normally possible with other awards. This facility is
designed primarily for mature students, most of whom choose
to study on a part–time basis. The subject areas studied
for these particular awards could include modules selected
from across the Faculty of Health and indeed the whole university. |

The course has been designed
to provide opportunities for students to become a specialist
public health nurse on the third part of the nursing register,
enabling them to undertake leadership roles, working in
partnership with wider multi disciplinary and multi agency
teams, to influence, drive and implement public health
policies.
Students on all pathways study 4 common core modules
enabling multi disciplinary working and intra professional
learning: Leadership & Management; Public Health;
Therapeutic Relationships and Skills for Evidence Based
Practice, and 4 professional focus modules on the skills
required of the specialist in that area. For Occupational
Health Nursing these are: Professional Development - OH;
Health, Safety & Environment; Health Promotion; Managing
Health in the Workplace. |
