Objectives/

Nutrition plays a significant
role in the healthy development of human being. Inappropriate
nutrition in fetal life can provide the basis for chronic
diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in
adulthood. Proper dietary intake during pregnancy will
ensure optimal health for mother and the foetus. Malnutrition
in infants and young children could be due to improper
feeding practice. Breastfeeding is the single most effective
way to reduce malnutrition in children. There are strong
advantages of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants.
The introduction of solid foods is influenced by culture
and custom and guidelines have often been unclear. Hands
on meal planning and food preparation are incorporated
into the course.
Objectives:
1. To promote healthy nutrition among women of reproductive
age
2. To inculcate good feeding practices in mothers for
children 0-5yrs old
3. To promote the consumption of nutrient-rich foods available
locally
4. To create an awareness among mothers the importance
of early childhood nutrition.
After the course participants will be able to:
1. Gain knowledge on the importance of diet before and
during pregnancy
2. Gain knowledge on the importance of breastfeeding
3. Practice proper feeding for infants and young children
4. Plan menus for pregnant mothers and children.
