Given the role that communication campaigns play in behaviour change, communication interventions are increasingly recognized as a necessary element of efforts to improve personal and public health. Health communication encompasses the study and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individuals and the community about the factors that enhance health. In addition, communication is highly dependent not only upon the effective use of fundamentals of communication but also upon their judicious use in view of the social and the cultural milieu that shapes individuals, families, and communities. Health communication, therefore, needs to be supported with our understanding of the values/contexts that determine how information will be received and how it can be effective. Attention may also be to the ethical and social concerns that must be appreciated and respected in the design of communication campaigns. Further, since several diseases are behaviour oriented, communication to assuage their burden requires Behaviour Change Communication Interventions.

Since the second half of the 20th century, health care scenario has changed rapidly. On the one hand, scientific innovations and advances have enabled people to improve the quality of life.
