Participants'
Profile |
|
The interface between nutrition and health is of importance to physicians,
pathologists, surgeons, anaesthetists, GPs, other health-care workers,
pharmacists, nutritionists, scientists and those in the food and food-supplement
industries, for whom no equivalent course exists at present. The programme
will be of particular interest to doctors aiming to take the new diploma
examination in Clinical Nutrition to be introduced by the Royal Colleges. |
| Requirements |
|
Graduates in medicine or those with a good honours degree in appropriate
science or health disciplines are eligible for admission to the MSc
or Postgraduate Diploma programme. In exceptional circumstances non-graduates
may be admitted but they may be required to pass an entrance examination. |
| Structure |
|
The modular, part-time programme has been designed for those in
full-time employment, consisting of twelve, three-day taught periods
at the University, preceded by preparatory study (for which carefully-selected
distance-learning materials will be provided), and followed by consolidation
and assessment. Additional requirements for the MSc are a further
taught module (nine in total,) and a research project, which will
normally be carried out at the participant's place of work e.g. hospital,
surgery, clinic or pharmacy. Literature-based projects are also acceptable.
A Postgraduate Certificate may be awarded on the completion of four
modules. Modules, which are independent, can also be taken as stand-alone
short courses. |
