To learn how to use the conceptual
and methodological tools that are essential to address
the humanitarian challenges of the world today.
The Common Curriculum includes six compulsory modules:
- Module 1 The humanitarian action in question
- Module 2 Situations of humanitarian crisis: contexts
and prompting factors
- Module 3 Humanitarian action: legal framework, actors
and media
- Module 4 Situations of crisis and emergency management
- Module 5 Between situations of crisis and development
- Module 6 Social crisis, precariousness and exclusion

and a dissertation |

Non Profit Organizations,
especially Voluntary and Non Governemental Organizations
(NGO), are under rising pressure to best allocate and
manage their limited resources in central offices and
on the field. An effective and common management approach
in complex situations is thus crucial.
Objective
Improve specific skills and competencies for managing
Non Profit Organizations, projects or programs under complex
conditions and with limited resources.
Program
- Module1 Understanding strong Non Profit Organizations
- What are the new chacteristics and challenges facing
NPOs?
- Module 2 Strategic management - What are the important
trends in the environment of a NPO? How to postion your
organisation in its sector whilst considering important
stakeholders needs?
- Module 3 Communication, promotion and fundraising
- How to communicate and to promote projects and programs,
products and services?
- Module 4 Knowledge management -How to actively optimize
the creation, the transfer and the sharing of knowledge
and information?
- Module 5 Leadership
How to mobilize and lead members, volunteers and collaborators?
- Module 6 Financial management, accounting and accountability
- How to structure and to control effectively the budget
of a NPO?

A step-by-step approach for
advocacy strategy-building: an up-date about the diversity
of the
HIV/AIDS epidemic and possible responses, strength and
limits of the biggest donator’s
institutions actually involved in HIV/AIDS programmes.
Objectives:
To acquire tools and skills for effective advocacy to
implement performing HIV/AIDS interventions in the field
of humanitarian action.
Learning objectives:
- At the end of the module, the students are able to:
Analyse the epidemiological situation and existing responses
to the epidemic in relation to the health policy, stakeholders,
program performances and available means.
- Argue the role of advocacy in the field of HIV/AIDS
and humanitarian action.
- Identify barriers and opportunities for development
of HIV/AIDS humanitarian operational activities.
- Elaborate and implement an advocacy plan to support
programmatic objectives in HIV/AIDS and humanitarian
action, i.e. the human resource relief and the political
commitment development, the issue of discrimination
and hand-over strategy.

Participants wishing to attend
this optional module have to comply with the admission criteria
defined by the PIAH / Master in Humanitarian Action, i.e.:
- An academic degree or equivalent
- At least three years professional experience in humanitarian,
social, development or human
rights related fields
Fluency in English (reading, speaking, writing) required
for the courses (TOEFL score of at least
550 points paper-based or 213 points computer-based, or
an equivalent approved test) |

Le module se présente
sous la forme de journées thématiques consacrées
à un aspect particulier de l’action humanitaire,
notamment sur les thématiques suivantes : XXe siècle,
guerres et violences; Politisation de l’aide humanitaire;
Enfance comme objet de l'aide humanitaire; Humanitaire
et génocide; Inernationalisation de l'aide humanitaire.
Objectifs
Développer la lecture critique des grands enjeux
de l’action humanitaire à travers l’utilisation
des documents historiques. A la fin du module, les participants
sont capables de Lister les éléments qui
permettent une recherche documentaire en histoire; Décrypter
le discours humanitaire à travers les différentes
sources historiques disponibles (textes, photographies,
films, affiches); Construire un objet historique dans
le domaine de l’action humanitaire. |
