The Geneva Health Forum 2010
is a joint initiative launched by the Geneva University
Hospitals and the Faculty of Medicine of the University
of Geneva in partnership with the main organizations active
in health in Geneva and around the world. The Geneva Health
Forum (GHF) brings together the major stakeholders in
global access to health- from field workers to policy-makers.
The Forum has the vision of facilitating the strengthening
of health systems and basic health services, striving
to keep global access to health on the international agenda.
The 2010 Geneva Health Forum builds on the two previous
editions in 2006 and 2008, which focused respectively
on access to health around the world and strengthening
health systems and the global health workforce. The 2010
edition takes this a step further by looking at two major
factors that strongly affect health systems today: globalization
and crises. Focusing on the theme 'Globalization,
Crisis, and Health Systems: Confronting Regional Perspectives',
the 2010 conference aims to identify sustainable responses
to crises, placing emphasis on lessons learned from local
and regional initiatives. Crises reveal existing weaknesses
and disparities, offering GHF participants the opportunity
to formulate potential reforms and innovation. Creating
a dynamic confrontation of perspectives, including all
stakeholders active in the health sector, new forms of
governance and partnering can be explored. In addition,
the GHF will also look into how innovative research and
technologies can influence practice to facilitate access
to health and care. Special emphasis will be given to
e-health technologies creating unique opportunities to
disseminate information to improve practices.
The Geneva Health Forum offers a unique environment for
bringing field experience to international attention and
places special emphasis on participants from low- and
low-middle income economies through travel grants. Moreover
the 2010 edition comprises a reinforcement of the GHF
outreach policy, with the launching of both the online
Global Access to Health Platform (http://globalaccesstohealth.net/)
and a system of internet hubs– or conference antennas
– at the conference itself for those that are unable
to attend.
