Objectives / Content The overall objective of the course is to equip you with adequate knowledge, skills and attitudes to practise the speciality of obstetrics and gynaecology in an unsupervised capacity at specialist level. By the end of the programme it is expected that you will be able to :
  • Confidently and competently manage common and severe obstetric and gynaecology problems.
  • Identify more complex obstetric and gynaecological problems and either treat or refer them to an appropriate centre.
  • Have an attitude that allows for the teaching of peers and allied health professionals.
  • Arrange for preventative programmes in the speciality.

Duration 3-6 years
Requirements

a. A medical qualification from the Fiji School of Medicine, the Pacific Basin Medical Officers Training Programme, the University of Papua New Guinea or any other institution in the WHO list of recognised medical schools.
b. Full medical registration.
c. A minimum of three years clinical experience post graduation, of which at least one year has been spent in the speciality which the applicant wishes to study. For candidates wishing to pursue qualifications in District Practice at least one year must have been spent in rural practice.
d. The written recommendation of their clinical supervisor in that discipline.
e. On written application to the Board exemption to clause(c), relating to the need for previous experience in the speciality, may be made if the candidate can verify that their clinical exposure has included a significant case load in that discipline.
