Objectives/
Content

The educational program of the Master of Public Health corresponds to the needs of public health services and health care policy institutes, and is in line with European accreditation requirements. The program provides Master in Public Health degree after a one-year training course for those having MSc or equivalent degree; the study period is two years for those having BSc degree to obtain the MPH degree. The curriculum covers all the major subfields of public health: biostatistics and epidemiology, environmental health, health promotion, health management, health policy. Writing a thesis is also part of the educational program.

Compulsory subjects (33 credits):

  • Biostatistics (3 credits)
  • Epidemiology (7 credits)
  • Health policy (5 credits)
  • Health management (4 credits)
  • Health promotion (7 credits)
  • Environmental health (7 credits)

The optional subjects to b e chosen from:

  • Health informatics (3 credits)
  • Health economics (3 credits)
  • Public health problems in disadvantaged population groups (3 credits)
  • Clinical epidemiology (3 credits)
  • Epidemiological study design (3 credits)
  • Evidence based public health (3 credits)
  • Public health in developed countries (3 credits)
  • Public health in developing countries (3 credits)

The exploration of health-impairing environmental effects, their reduction or optimally, their elimination requires collaborative actions across society. These actions far extend the boundaries of health care that can be transgressed only by specialists trained on a multidisciplinary basis.

6. epidemiology in public health

Speciality-oriented modules (min. 10 modules to complete): 1. environmental health and epidemiology, 2. radiation health, 3. occupational health, 4. environmental toxicology, 5. risk assessment, management and communication, 6. environmental health systems and regulations, 7. basis of environmental protection, 8. nutritional health, 9. field studies and laboratory practice, 10. journal club

Optional modules (min. 1 module to complete): 1. epidemiology of non-communicable diseases,
2. health promotion, 3. environmental monitoring, 4. local health policy development,
5. philosophy of science and health, 6. applied molecular biology techniques in epidemiology,
7. medical demography, 8. health systems, 9. health economics, 10. quality assurance in health care, 11. health policy, 12. multivariate methods in epidemiology, 13. selected chapters from the epidemiology of, 14. communicable disease.
