Two-week round-trip course (1400 km by road) for healthcare professionals on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health. Includes individual on-site bedside teaching, laboratory manuals (hands-on microscopy on parasites in the blood, stool, urine and skin), field excursions and lectures.
The curriculum covers: Malaria, African Trypanosomiasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Onchocerciasis, Schistosomiasis, Leprosy, HIV/AIDS and related opportunistic infections, Dengue Fever and new emerging arboviral infections, Dermatology in the tropics, Ophtalmology in the tropics, Occupational medicine in the tropics, Ultrasound diagnosis in Tropical Medicine, DD of fever and diarrhoea in the tropics, WHO-vaccination guidelines for travelers, medical botany.

Content

Two-week intensive Clinical Training Course (Individual bedside-teaching, laboratory manuals, field excursions, powerpoint-presentations) on Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health for up to 10 healthcare professionals (doctors, public health experts) in several hospitals and research centers in Kenya. In collaboration with Kay Schaefer (MD, PhD, MSc, DTM&H) and the University of Nairobi, Kenya. During the round-trip (1200 km overland and 1000 km by air) the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and control of important Tropical Infectious Diseases are covered in the endemic areas.
Curriculum includes: Malaria, Visceral Leishmaniasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Schistosomiasis, Dengue Fever and new emerging arboviral infections, HIV/AIDS and related opportunistic infections, Ophtalmology in the Tropics, DD on Fever and Diarrhoea in the Tropics, Update on travelers' health and vaccination guidelines, Visit to the Flying Doctors (AMREF). Scientific excursions to National Parks over the weekend. Language: English. 60 contact hours. German CME credits and recognition awards available.
