These annual conferences are intended to become outstanding events in the field of microbiology and to meet the following objectives:
* to transfer knowledge between basic and clinical microbiologists as well as infectious diseases specialists

Infections with Acinetobacter baumannii are of great concern for hospitalized patients, especially with multidrug-resistant strains. The course is focused on medical biofilms with examples from urinary tract infections to cystic fibrosis lung infections. The techniques include setup and running of biofilm flow cell systems, fluorescence in situ hybridization, various advanced imaging techniques, image analysis, flow cytometry and demonstration of biofilm techniques in experimental animal research.
