Founded in 1983, the European Society of Clinical
Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) currently
has more than 2,750 individual members in 93 countries.
The Society is a non-profit organisation registered
in Taufkirchen, Germany with offices in Munich, Germany
and the administrative headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
ESCMID welcomes all those who are interested in clinical
microbiology and infectious diseases.
The mission of ESCMID is to improve the diagnosis,
treatment and prevention of infectious diseases by
promoting and supporting research, education and training
in the infection disciplines. This is achieved by
scientific exchange, educational programmes, grants
and awards, certification and consultation with professional
and government agencies. Through its activities and

We would like to extend
a warm welcome to all the participants at 20th ECCMID
Congress 2010 in Vienna. We expect the congress to provide
all of you with the best of science and education. The
ECCMID is a unique forum where medical professionals can
meet their colleagues from all around the world, and exchange
ideas and information in the field of infectious diseases
and clinical microbiology. Being in the historical and
geographical heart of Europe, Vienna provides an exceptional
opportunity for a meeting of scientists from all over
Europe, as well as for a cross-fertilisation of Eastern
and Western European ideas and traditions in infectious
diseases.
The Austria Centre Vienna has excellent infrastructure
to comfortably hold such a large congress as the ECCMID
and provides the best service in terms of lecture, poster
