Today, there is great interest in anything that refers to diet and nutrition, which is justified by a series of factors of which we highlight a greater demand for quality of life in contemporary western society and translating into a better, healthier, more balanced diet.

These days, eating is a major cultural event, in the anthropological sense. In fact, the idea of what a society is and represents is linked to the quality of its population's diet. The process of increasing, expanding and improving social and health services has incorporated food management as a preventive or mitigating factor in collective and personal health.

From government campaigns promoting balanced nutrition to including dieticians in all types of institutions prove that nutrition and diet are key issues in the lives of our citizens.

One of the areas where methodological needs are more obvious is the health sciences given that design, statistics and computer tools are essential to support research, as well as to prepare research projects and publish in important journals.

This type of knowledge must be provided at the graduate level, when graduates in this area, especially those working in the public health system, have hypotheses and data to test, and therefore, their motivation and work environment is optimal to incorporate statistics and design concepts that are traditionally difficult for undergraduates.

Today, training in outpatient emergencies and disaster reliefs is required due to the the growing demand for professionals with expertise in this area.
For many years, accident victims were taken to the hospital, to the emergency room, in ambulances which, in general, were ill-equipped and by vocational care personnel.
Studies published lately have demonstrated that quality care during the first hour following the accident is basic to prevent and avoid sequels or to diminish the seriousness of the situations that may be generated.

One of the main characteristics of western society's current eating habits is excess. Food intake that greatly exceeds real nutritional needs causes an emergent epidemic: obesity, which carries multiple associated pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis or cancer.

However, consumer society imposes a body image on the individual. In this context, we find both obesity problems and eating disorders. This course provides the necessary keys to understand the problems treated, as well as the proper way to approach the situation at the preventive and intervention levels once the problem has manifested itself.
